Sweet Sixteen Synopsis - Sweet Sixteen is set in Greenock, Scotland and centres around Liam, a 15 year old boy whose mother is in prison after taking the rap for her drug dealing boyfriend. Liam is determined to get some money so that they can move away together and she can be free of her boyfriend forever. However, money is hard to come by and Liam takes risks to get money and gets embroiled with some heavies. With her mother due to be paroled soon can Liam get the money together to enable them both to escape from the dangerous situation.

Review of Sweet Sixteen - Sweet Sixteen is yet another superb Ken Loach film, but something of a departure for him. Many of Loach's films are rather low key and the action is somewhat minimal or confined to a climax, however this film is relatively action packed, and works as a thriller. This makes it maybe more accessible to an audience who would not otherwise be interested in Ken Loach films. Martin Compston gives a brilliant debut performance in the lead role.
The reasons I recommend Sweet Sixteen are: 1. Another superb story which veers slightly away from the style of film Ken loach is best known for (and possibly stylistically as close to a "Hollywood" style of film Ken Loach will get to. 2. The performances Martin Compston in the lead role is particularly impressive his debut role.
