Stanley Kubrick

Stanley Kubrick, director of A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Dr Strangelove is perhaps the most complete film director of all time. An artist whose grasp of cinematography was legendary, whose use of music in film was was unparalleled, and who, by fair means or foul, was the director who always got the best out of his actors.

Shane Meadows

Shane Meadows, perhaps the best of the new crop of British Directors. He has brought us such great underground films as Twenty four Seven, A Room for Romeo Brass, and Once Upon a Time in the Midlands, and more recently has gained a wider audience with the thriller Dead Man's Shoes and his highly regarded coming of age drama This is England.

Michael Haneke

Sometimes controversial but always thought provoking Michael Haneke is renowned as one of Europe's premier film directors. From the promise of the uncompromising Benny's Video through the stunning break through of The Piano Teacher, Time of The Wolf and the universally acclaimed Cache (aka Hidden), Haneke has continued to challenge audiences with his unique style of storytelling.

Terry Gilliam

Like some modern day Michelangelo / Brother Grimm, Terry Gilliam's impact on modern cinema is difficult to overestimate. With his movies enjoying a hugely creative and visually stunning aesthetic, linked to his dark and often warped sense of humour and perspective the likes of Jabberwocky, Brazil, Time Bandits, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Twelve Monkeys and more recently Tideland have continued to challenge, delight and amaze audiences in equal measure. A true genius of modern cinema.
